Higher-quality versions made from asphalt or fiberglass shingles offer durable options and may be available with recycled content. Composition shingles come in a large selection of types, brands and colors, require little maintenance and can be walked on without damage to the material. Most brands offer Class-A fire protection—the highest fire rating available for residential roofing. Although traditional composition roofing does not look like tile or shake, new premium product lines have patterns to emulate a three-dimensional look. Premium shingles are sometimes referred to as Dimensional and Laminate, with a thicker profile designed to add dimension and detail to your roof.
