Choosing Roofing Materials
The choices range from asphalt shingles to tile shakes and clay tiles, and rubber lookalike slate. The most important trend to note, however, is that as with home-construction materials in general, there is an increasing move towards engineered roofing materials. This change is being driven by a few different factors. One is simply the high cost of wood. The second is that in many cases, codes now mandate the use of fireproof construction materials. And third, people understandably want to build with materials that not only look good but also are very long-lived.

Licensed, bonded, insured. You know doubt have heard these terms, but what exactly do they mean and why is it important to select a roofer that has both a license and a bond? Licensed: All roofers must have a unified business identifier (UBI) for state tax purposes and an employer identification number (EIN) for federal tax purposes. Bonded: All roofing companies are required by the State of California to secure a bond prior to going into business. Only when licensing, bonding and insurance requirements are met will Labor and Industry (L&I) issue a contractor number. Haugen Roof’s contractor license is #772553. The roofing license classification is # C-39. To check if a roofer is fully licensed, bonded, and to verify that a company is in good standing with the state, simply go online to California Contractors State Licensing Board. Not only is Haugen Roof fully licensed, bonded and insured, but we are also proud members of the California State Better Business Bureau, an additional assurance that we operate with the highest standards and best business practices.
