The most common roofing used on flat roofs, torch down roofing is sometimes referred to as rubberized asphalt. Asphalt is melted onto the roof using a torch, creating an impermeable roof—important for the rainy season in Southern California. When properly installed and maintained, a torch down roof can last 20 years. The cost is only slightly more than traditional tar and gravel but gives superior protection from the elements.
